Introduction

Lithium ion battery packs provide the best performance for their price, and can be incorporated into many different types of products. Having the ability to build your own custom battery packs and building them in such a way that they operate safely and reliably many oppurtunities can open up.

Typically battery packs are reference by how many cells they have in series and parallel by {cells in series}S{cells in parallel}P

E-Bike Battery 14S4P

This is the current state of my battery pack for my E-bike, it is about half finished because the MOSFETs on my spot welder died in the middle of building it. When complete the pack should will be about 518Wh @ 52V. I am using Samsung INR18650-25R cells. For this initial pack I am going to use a cheap ebay battery management system, once I finish welding the pack up I want to be able to start using it immediately to determine its performance.

Current state of the E-bike battery, you can see where the spot welder V1.0 died on me.

4S1P pack

This pack I built with a spot welder not mentioned on this site. I originally built this to test driving motors from a 4S battery pack as I only have li-po's that go up to 3S. Unfortunately I didn't have an ESC that accepted more than 3S (~12V) so it has been languishing.
